Blog Indiana 2010 Recap

Blog Indiana 2010 recapBlog Indiana 2010 was the third year of the conference for Blog Indiana.  2008 was the inaugural year with topics ranging from beginning business blogging to what was then an even more infant word 'social media.'  The success surprising, 2009 opened with a bang from heavyweight keynote speaker Chris Brogan.  More attendees, more sessions, more tracks ranging from social media ranging from technical topics such as SEO, to ethical issues of blogging and working with people in the social media space.  Let's take a look a the raw numbers:

Year    Number of Attendees    Number of Sessions

2008                160                        25

2009                188                        32

2010                224                        40

Fast forward to 2010 and as you can see the trend continued!  More attendees, more sessions, more fun!  Led off by a keynote from Jason Falls, there were gobs of new faces, along with all of the usual suspects.  Blog Indiana 2010 was setup into two days, with a headlining keynote on opening day, as well as a day two featured speaker, along with a featured speaker after lunch on both days 1 and 2.  A change in tone was seen in this years Blog Indiana as the focus had matured in content along with the maturation of learning by those who attended.  Blog Indiana was no longer about high-level or introductory sessions, but was much more drilled down and focused on ways to improve physical business.

Sessions were chosen to delve deeper into all of the areas that touch a local business owners bottom line: blogging, SEO, mobile, brand management, Twitter, Facebook, business blogging, website design and PR.  Ask any of the attendees and you will find that newbies were blown away, and the usual suspects were in agreement that Blog Indiana 2010 was better than Blog Indiana 2009.  Another shift that took place was the connectivity of Blog Indiana.  There was live blogging, sessions being recorded for video, tweeting, facebooking, a tweetwall and blogs going up about a session before the next session could start.  Following the #BIN2010 hashtag on Twitter made it as if you were sitting in the chair next to the presenter of one of the sessions.  Name tags were worn by all the attendees and Twitter handles were prevalent.

Blog Indiana 2010 was yet again a successful event. The attendees gained valuable insights into specific areas of interest to their local business, and because of the personableness of the conference -- are able to make extended contact with those presenters.  Whether it be through Facebook, Twitter or traditional means -- email, they walked away with additional information and conversation just a few clicks away.  Blog Indiana has a small town feel but swings a very big bat.  For Indiana businesses it should be a MUST and a CIRCLED date on their 2011 calendar!
